TRACING MOVEMENT REBOOT 2021

An initiative set up by Stuart Winter financially supported by the Jerwood Foundation

We ran 23 free classes for professional dancers starting Monday 10th May 2021 at Jerwood Space London. Each class was taught by Stuart Winter, assisted by Natasha Volley and accompanied by live music from Stefano Ancora

Over 160 dancers attended.  This included performers from Frozen, Mary Poppins, Hamilton, Mamma Mia, Moulin Rouge, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Glyndebourne, McOnie Company, The Lion King, Hairspray, Carousel and many more West End and national shows

Classes were in great demand and we had a constant waiting list.  Even when performers had to miss a class due to auditions or altering work schedules, we could fill the spaces immediately. James McKeon and Natasha Volley coordinated all the administration, including COVID testing requirements.

All dancers provided evidence of negative COVID tests throughout the week.  Classes were all socially distanced and carefully designed to keep everyone safe.

We also offered two evening classes of yoga for dancers, taught by Sebastian Goffin, allowing extra rehabilitation and maintenance after the dance classes during the day.

Four of the dancers who attended the Reboot (Shoko Ito, Harry Price, Barnaby Quarendon and Taela Yeomans-Brown) were also employed for the abstract dance film “Resilience”, directed and choreographed by Stuart.  It is a film about dancers returning to studios and dance spaces while moving towards the goal of performance.  It is choreographed to “Wolf Mountain,” composed and performed by Yvonne Marie Parsons and was filmed by Benjamin Thomas at Studio Wayne McGregor on 22nd and 23rd June.  Editor Greg Bernstein starts work this week and we are aiming to release the film in June.
